It really should have its own acronym like “POOF” (Phenomena Of Only Frustration) perhaps or “YSHBHY” (You Should Have Been Here Yesterday). Maybe it should bear a title, someone’s name, a relative of Murphy of “Murphy’s Law” fame might work.
It is that uncanny bad luck that seem to follow an invitation to visit the way that a shadow comes right behind the sunlight: when you have company coming, the day before they arrive will be the kind of day they write songs about, beautiful and sun-kissed, the day after they leave will be idyllic, the stuff of legends.
The day they are here? Forget about it.
