The wilderness at night can be like traveling in another country. Traveling in the wilderness not only in the middle of the night but in the middle of winter can be like standing on another planet. Each step is calculated. How safe is the ice? How long can I stay out at temperatures so far below zero? Will my camera batteries last? Will my fingers work?
But there comes a moment when all of that slips away. When the camera -- in place and working – has been forgotten. Then, there is only the wind, the stars bright as slivers of dreams, a rising moon, the otherworldly sounds emanating from the ice. You are alone on a frozen planet.
One quality of wild places is to take us away from the commonplace, to transport us to moments of the miraculous and show us the place we live in another light. There are some times in the wild that remind us of what a beautiful world we have here on Earth, and other times, like deep on a winter night, that go further, making us wonder about the beauties of the universe and beyond.

Well done again my friend. Your subject matter, the composition of your photographs, everything intertwined is simply 1+1= gazillion. As always, thank you. Pete
Beautiful! Even though I’m in a small room I feel like I’m outside in a dark night.
