Well, Jeff, I have finally taken the vast $5/month leap to subscribe to your beautiful and thoughtful blog. Sometimes it seems like I am subscribed to so many things my mind boggles, and I have resisted blogs for a long time—but I could resist your blog no longer. Your wide-ranging commentary, beautiful writing and inspiring photos has put the Apostle Is on my wanna go list (the really wanna go list). I appreciate your writings on the environment and govt. too. Hope the fires are contained soon so we can all breathe more easily (I’m expecting some impact in the Boston area in a few days). Best to you and the Little Dipper.

That is deeply kind of you, thank you. I hope your "really wanna go list" brings you to the Apostle Islands soon. Would you be all right with me sharing your kind words with others? Thank you for your support. -- Jeff

This is too true. The world is burning and our Nero is fiddling with education, science, and climate regulations. In the fall Kate and I experienced fires in Portugal and were congested for five days after leaving and now we go outside our home in Willow River State Forest and taste and smell smoke. We sit outside on a sunny day and look into a blue sky through a grey veil. Yet our country now refuses to both say climate change and take any action. Instead our leader promotes more coal and more petroleum. The orange sun will stay in the sky as long as the orange face is in the Whitehouse.

Or Canada, like California gets it’s priorities straight.

Their priorities include climate change, but that is not something they can do without a big push from the country and that is not happening these four years.

Ya. You’d think protecting people from the threat of these fires would take on a bigger priority. IMHO California & Canada are trying to do too much & failing at the basics.
