Anderson Point is on Stockton Island. It is basically the tip of Presque Isle. Many people walk over to Julian Bay for the beach and it is incredibly beautiful. But if you turn right at the end of the trail rather than left towards the beach, the point has a long stretch of beautiful shelf rock that you can walk. There you will find, if you look carefully, what looks like long scratches from cat claws. What you are seeing is the tracks of glacial ice perhaps thousands of feet thick. The stones and boulders at the bottom of that immense weight of ice acted like sandpaper and scratched back and forth as the glacier moved. You are literally standing in the tracks of a glacier. Stockton Island is easy to get to because it has a marina, a ranger station, and is also serviced by the Apostle Islands Cruise Service. You can also find glacial striae as it is called on the rocks at the tip of Bear Island but that island is more difficult to access. -- Jeff
Beautiful. Happy belated! That longing to be part of and deeply connected to a place... the land... the water... all of it. I can meet you there, friend. And perhaps it's simply about remembering we already are.
Happy belated birthday, Jeff. Thanks for remembering (and sharing) how to put our human lives into context with time and nature. No comparison, only humble appreciation. Moment by moment.
Beautiful thoughts and words Jeff. Sounds like the perfect birthday in the islands!
I'm intrigued with glacier claws...where is Anderson point and is it hard or easy to get to? Joan

I often wonder, does the wind that passes by us continue on, perhaps around the world? Or does it cease after a giving an embrace for all it touches.
Great question. In that way, even something as simple as the wind could be a connection.
