This story makes hope tangible. Something you can hold, touch, hear and smell. But it also teaches us that hope is not just controlled by humans. In fact, the opposite.
I've always found hope in this story. I wish it were more widely known. As a matter of fact, I once told my friend Terry Tempest Williams this story and it was JUST after she had finished her book THE HOUR OF LAND. She had been looking for a story of hope to use in the last chapter of that book but didn't know about the rewilding of the Apostle Islands. It is a story that needs to be told far beyond the small island of my "Little Dipper" blog.
If only we humans were better at getting "out of the its way." Thank you for reading and thank you for your paid subscription. Your support is meaningful to me. -- Jeff

1 acre at a time, 1 parcel at a time...the land rewilds itself when we humans get out of her way.
