Thanks Jon. I hope you are well. The next four years could be a different story with the president than what Jimmy Carter accomplished. Keep up the good work. -- Jeff

A great human being and role model. Thank you for remembering him in this awesome way. I’ve never been to Alaska but feel connected living here in Hawaii. Overwhelmed with the idea of a trip, any suggestions of how to see this magnificent place?

Thank you Susan. I hope you do get to visit Alaska. Let me offer two bits of advice. First, it is BIG (twice the size of Texas) and so don't try to see it all in one visit. I have been to Alaska 33 times and still feel like I am learning. Just pick one part -- Southeast Alaska around Juneau OR the area around Denali OR one of the other sections but don't try to see it all at once. It will simply become a blur. Secondly, you might enjoy a book I've written called TREASURES OF ALASKA: LAST GREAT AMERICAN WILDERNESS published by the National Geographic Society. I also did a story for National Geographic Adventure Magazine that broke the state down into 6 regions and suggested the best trips in each region. That might be a place to start as well. Wherever you go in Alaska, take a moment to thank Jimmy Carter! -- Jeff
