I’m often sublimed just before I start out to swat a fly. Whole visions of DNA packets and evolution and intricacies of the compound eye flash before me and I stop and mumble, “Shoo, fly.”
We were on a houseboat in a canyon off Lake Powell. The evening was pleasant, absolutely still, not a cloud in the sky. I took my kayak out into the middle of the water, nothing but an occasional silhouetted rim of sandstone around the horizon. The reflection of the multitude of stars in the water was perfect. I couldn't tell where the water ended and the sky began. As I drifted and allowed myself to sink into the feeling, suddenly I had no idea where up or down was, nor any direction. No clue where the houseboat was. Finally I spotted a tiny light from a window.....and I admit to paddling back to shore in a state near panic! Afterwards I chided myself for not staying longer, it was so beautiful, but in the moment, NO!
Wonderful moment of the sublime. Thank you for sharing it.
In the lab there is a process of sublimation. We freeze a sample and then gradually the liquid sublimes/evaporates. There is a mist. 🤔
