Powerful story. The fact that Pete stayed visible at Maslowski Beach for months despite being shot probably saved him. Most injured migratory birds go unnoticed til it's too late. What strikes me is how the isolation from his flock turned into an advantage here, making the rescue possible before winter set in completly.

Yes, it is almost like the pelican knew that it best chance for survival was in remaining visible to those who cared. Thanks for reading and commenting. — Jeff

Thank you for updating us on Pete. I appreciate learning about the life saving work the Raptor Education Group provides. The light and dark of humanity... May Pete and his fellow companions at the Group spend a peaceful winter healing and getting ready to spread their wings, and soar on the spring wind currents ... taking them safely home.

How awful it must be to live in such a way that someone desires to intentionally cause harm or kill an innocent being for no reason or use. I will never understand that.

I will never understand either. I choose to honor those who found it in their heart to care. — Jeff

Thank you for the care in sharing Pete’s story. Well done by everyone involved. Side note, I had no idea how broad the pelican’s wingspan can be. Wow!
